The Caravan Must Go On

Thank you, everyone, for your patience.

The Half Finished Image

I was working on this piece from the Abbey of the Lost Caretakers, coloring it for print, when I received word that my father had died. That was two weeks ago today.

The week after my father died, the week when I helped arrange his last rites, was the hardest week of my life that I can recall.

Today I finished that piece from two weeks ago. Thank you everyone, for standing by me and mine in our time of need. Thank you for your patience, as the UVG kickstarter moved from "barely on track" to "late."

There are still many personal, administrative, and legal matters to wrap up here, but they will move at their own pace, with a nudge and a signature here and there. For the next two weeks I will remain in Slovenia, to help my mother sort things out after the funeral. I am also resuming work on coloring the last pieces of art for the UVG. It will be done soon, but because of everything else going on right now, I do not dare to give a precise day and date.

I can say that I will rewrite the dedication. I trust you will all understand.

Ribs of the Father, Halls of the Marmotfolk. A new piece I drew last weekend, a couple of days after the funeral.

An Unexpected Funeral

difficult days
difficult days

Dear backers,

On the 3rd of August my father suddenly and unexpectedly passed away while on his morning hike up his beloved Grad. I received the news in the late Korean afternoon and traveled to be with my mother, his wife of over fifty years, and the rest of the family as swiftly as I could.

The family is gathered and attending to the funeral.

For those near Tolmin: https://www.lukarejec.com/2019/adijo-ati/

The UVG will now receive a changed dedication. On Saturday, just before receiving the news, I was looking forward to completing the last of the coloring within two to three days. Now, I cannot give any estimates.

I thank you for your patience and hope you will understand.

Sincerely,

Luka Rejec

So there is no easy way to say this but one of our team members had a personal tragedy occur and to be honest work will cease on the project for a couple weeks while they deal with their bereavement.

Please respect the privacy of the matter and if you have any questions send them to:

Just might be a couple weeks before any other updates.

Thank you all

Why Dost We Hide Ourselves In Clouds?
over 6 years ago – Thu, Jul 25, 2019 at 02:56:20 AM

There is one last piece of text to finish

For have we not ascended unto the tiers of the unfinished champions?
For have we not ascended unto the tiers of the unfinished champions?

"Lo, upon this plain, we have crossed, travelled, suffer'd woe and reached the end, and there, we found a house, and in that house, a cup of the Coffee God's blood. We drank this blood, and it was slow, and dark, and somber, but our mood grew light, and airy, and fine, as we partook of this communion."

—from the travel journals of Metemsolemnos of Monopolis.

And it is not that paragraph. No. It is adding the ISBN, double-checking all the contributor names, and thanking those final folks that should be thanked.

Not forgetting you all.

Thank you for riding this tiger with us. Dio and their Horns would be proud.

On the book, one other task left

  • color the remainder of the art and put it in there.

Wait, really?

Yeah. Everything else is done. The index is done. The table of contents is done. Everything in between is ... done. It's all done, except for putting in the final colored art.

So how long will that take?

Hey, don't look at us. Jump up and down on Luka's back all you like, that's just all that needs to be done now.

Leave us not to wait! Tease us!

Ummm ... alright, but this is kinda boring.

Here's the beginning ...
Here's the beginning ...
... and here's the end.
... and here's the end.

And once we reach the end, we'll tuck in an extra piece of art to wrap everything up with a nice, pretty bow.

So, what's next?

Exalted is checking in with the printer to get the final quote, because the price of paper has gone up a bit and other realities in the physical world have changed. Wizard Thief Fighter finishes the art. Then the book timeline is out of our hands and all we have to worry about are the final map and the DM screen. The digital DM screen is, meanwhile, in final testing, and soon going into polishing and prettification.

The postcards should be easy.

Two out of three t-shirt types have been picked up, and they look nice.

Now, to chase the artist back into the bunker and make them color like their life depends on it!

*swish!*

What is left?

So, the dice are on their way, this is all done ... what's left at this point is:

  • color the last of the art and put it in.
  • prep the index.
  • print the book.
  • prep the book ends and print and do those for the limited editions.
  • adjust the map for the accordion map.
  • lay out and illustrate the referee screen.
  • and the digital screen. Those two go hand in hand.
  • and then, finally, last of the post-cards.

Lessons from Luka's side:

  • wow, graphic design is so slow. O_O

So, if we're doing slow, here's some tunes to keep you turning for the next hour or so. Then, after all the travel, if you've made it to the Carnibotanic Disaster Zone, we'll welcome you to the jungle ...

Once again, thank you everyone, thank you for your patience, and thank you for your absolutely awesome support!
